Coco Amatrice in Paradise California

Role: Web Designer / Developer - designed in Photoshop, hand coded in HTML/CSS and developed for Drupal.

Using: Photoshop, Illustrator, PHP, HTML, CSS, Jquery, MySQL, Drupal

CocoAmatrice is an Artisan Chocolate & Gelato Tasting Salon located in old town Paradise, California. They offer a distinctive choice in all things chocolate and focus on European flavors and textures that are artistically beautiful and positively delicious. Their confections use much higher percentages of chocolate than traditionally found in the States. The Salon also features all-natural Gelato, Sorbetto, French inspired Desserts, and Specialty Beverages.

CocoAmatrice.com was designed in photoshop and hand coded in HTML/CSS as a theme for the Drupal CMS. Jquery was used to create the image slider on the home page as well as the expand/contract feature for lengthy text areas. The logo was originally a painted image. I vectorized the logo using Illustrator and cleaned up the cameo that is an integral part of CocoAmatrice's branding.

Green Clean / Chico Carpet Cleaning

Role: Web Designer / Developer / SEO Consultant - designed in Photoshop, hand coded in HTML/CSS

Using: Photoshop, HTML, CSS

Chris Floren, owner of Green Clean, had an idea of a simple landing page to promote his environmentally safe alternative to the conventional carpet cleaning process and to prompt visitors to call him. I was hired to design and build out that idea for the url http://chicocarpetcleaning.com

Now the site has an additional page that explains why someone would want to choose Green Clean. A call to action button leading to the second page allows for clear, concise navigation and a complete look until a full navigation bar is implemented in the future.

The challenge for Chris is to rank up with a local competitor that is currently using 'chico carpet cleaning' as a key phase that ranks the competitor's domain at the top of google. The SEO campaign is active and he is gaining ground.

This site is device responsive so that a visitor with a smart phone will see an appropriate style for their screen size.

Enviromin

Role: Web Developer / Administrator

Using: PHP, HTML, CSS, Javascript, Zen Cart, SSL

Originally designed by a company that is no longer in business, Enviromin.com was left incomplete and built on a framework that the owners of the site could not maintain. After a few meetings we decided to start from scratch and build out the site to make it easier for the owners, or anyone hired in the future, to make changes. The front of the site is a static information site and the shopping section is a themed Zen Cart e-commerce system.

Working in Tandem with Navigation North

Cadre

Role: Project Coordinator / Designer - designed in Photoshop, hand coded in HTML/CSS.

Using: PHP, HTML, CSS, jQuery

The Center for the Advancement of Digital Resources in Education is a powerhouse for education in the digital age. The Cadre team requested a new website with all information available on one page. The grid layout provided a way to display their work, their team and their objectives all on one page. The roll over tile feature mutes the available content until the visitor is ready to see it. When the visitor clicks on a tile, a modal box shows up in the foreground muting the site in the background.

The roll over navigation approach is unconventional, but is easy to figure out. The benefit of having everything on one page is that the visitor can't get lost in all the information. Less is more with this site. Roll over the title of the site. The highlighted letters were requested to give the site more life and intrigue.

Navigation North's Company Website

Role: Project Coordinator / Designer - designed in Photoshop, hand coded in HTML/CSS.

Using: PHP, HTML, CSS, Photoshop

My first project for Navigation North was to design a new, simple, static website that showcased what Nav North can do. The idea for the design came from the fact that the Nav North team does most of their brainstorming on napkins, scraps of paper, or even blue craft paper with white chalk. This concept carried over to the design and for added detail, taped on photos and curled paper keeps the look consistent. I had a lot of fun with this one.

I think it was about three weeks later, I joined the Nav North team as a web designer / web producer. Factoid: The job of a web producer is to take a design layout, commonly done in Photoshop, and build a functional web theme to be used in a web application framework or website.

Skills USA California

Role: Web Production - Writing an XHTML/XSL/CSS site theme.

Using: Cognoti, XSL, XHTML, CSS

Prior to rebuilding this site, skillsusaca.org was static and did not allow for administrative account holders to remotely access and edit and publish content on the fly. This site was developed so that various users with given permissions could edit just their own page of content on the site as pertained to their region, without having edit rights across the whole system which was critical for regional Skills information and events and competitions including the uploading and publication of files such as announcements, flyers, powerpoint presentations, images, videos, etc…

CTE Online

Role: Web Production - Writing an XHTML/XSL/CSS site theme based on a Photoshop design by Red Zest for implementation within Cognoti.

Using: Cognoti, XSL, XHTML, CSS, Illustrator, Photoshop

CTEOnline.org was developed and is maintained by Butte County Office of Education's Center for the Advancement of Digital Resources in Education (CADRE) under the leadership of Brian Ausland. CTEOnline's purpose is to give educators powerful web based tools to create model curriculum, share resources and participate in an online community specifically build for them.

Red Zest designed the layout of this site in Photoshop. I was tasked with converting the design using hand coded XHTML/XSL/CSS to fit within the Cognoti web application system which was created by the Navigation North team as a collection of Java portlets utilizing Hibernate, XML, XSL and sometimes Flash if necessary.

Illustrator was used for all of the little icons that appear throughout the site. Red Zest picked them, I implemented them.

Brokers of Expertise

Role: Web Producer - Writing an XHTML/XSL/CSS site theme based on a Photoshop design by a local web design company for implementation within Cognoti.

Using: Cognoti, XSL, XHTML, CSS, Illustrator, Photoshop

Inspired and developed by CADRE, led by Brian Ausland, this project is one of the most advanced digital resource repositories built for educators.

"Brokers of Expertise (BoE) is an interactive online environment that offers both easily searchable teaching resources and an online community of teaching professionals." (Source)

MyBOE.org is built on the Cognoti framework created by the Navigation North team. As an employee at Nav North, I was tasked with taking the design chosen for this website and implementing it within the Cognoti framework. But I didn't stop there.

In order to make the design work with a high level of customizable dynamic content areas, I had to manipulate the design in Photoshop, create new design elements, as well as build out custom content in the systems wysiwyg editor.
